TORONTO (AP) — Bob Cole, the voice of hockey in Canada for a half century who served because the soundtrack for among the nationwide sport’s greatest moments, has died. He was 90.
Buddy and fellow broadcaster John Shannon stated Cole died Wednesday evening in his hometown of St. John’s, the capital of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Canadian Broadcasting Company, the community for which Cole labored, introduced his demise Thursday, including daughter Megan stated her father had been wholesome “up till the very finish.”
“He’s such a legend, such a fantastic man,” stated Colorado heart Nathan MacKinnon, a Nova Scotia native. “I’ve met him just a few instances through the years. At charity golf tournaments in Halifax, he’d come out and assist Atlantic Canadians. Wonderful individual, tremendous humorous. Only a nice man and clearly among the greatest calls of all time.”
Recognized for his “Oh child!” catchphrase, Cole known as some iconic video games as a part of CBC’s “Hockey Night time in Canada.” His distinctive play-by-play model added much more taste to the 1972 Summit Sequence between Canada and the Soviet Union, the 2002 Olympic last in Salt Lake Metropolis and quite a few Stanley Cup Finals.
