Andrew Scott has performed many a villain down the years however in Netflix‘s Ripley he’s making an attempt to attract the road, and he has rejected comparisons along with his BAFTA-winning flip because the evil Jim Moriarty in Sherlock.
Talking on the BBC this morning, the All of us Strangers star mentioned he’ll use the eight-episode TV sequence model of Patricia Highsmith’s novel to persuade the viewers that Ripley is a lot greater than a con man.
“It does really feel completely different [to playing Moriarty],” he informed the Immediately program. “As Moriarty I felt like I used to be enjoying a villain and for some motive I retreat towards calling Ripley a villain. He’s an anti-hero and it’s as much as me to make the viewers know what it’s wish to be Ripley, to not be a sufferer of Tom Ripley. We should always empathize with him. He’s the protagonist on this.”
Highsmith’s reward in her novel is to “make you root for him,” Scott added.
The psychological thriller, wherein Ripley was famously performed by Matt Damon within the 1999 film, sees the eponymous character employed by a rich man to persuade his wayward son to return house from Italy. The TV model stars Johnny Flynn as Greenleaf and Dakota Fanning as Marge Sherwood.
Scott, whose credit embody Fleabag and Pleasure, mentioned themes of sophistication will come to the fore within the TV model.
