Patti LaBelle, the Godmother of Soul, is popping 80, and he or she feels “blessed” and enthusiastic about reaching this illustrious level in her life and profession.
LaBelle spoke with ET at a particular eightieth birthday celebration in New York Metropolis on Thursday, and the long-lasting songstress mirrored on the milestone, and the way she has no plans to decelerate anytime quickly.
“Yeah, 80 is nice,” LaBelle shared with a smile. Reflecting on what it means to her to ring in her eightieth, LaBelle mentioned, “Simply that I made it.”
“My sisters all died earlier than they turned 50,” mentioned LaBelle, who’s the one surviving member of her 5 siblings. Her brother, Thomas, died in 2013, whereas sisters Vivian, Barbara and Jackie died in 1975, 1982 and 1989 respectively.

LaBelle defined that, having reached this level in her life, she feels “like a grown girl.”
