After a half-century of photographing the wealthy and tremendously well-known, Annie Leibovitz has targeted her lens on an impressive beast of a special type, snapping images of the Locarno Movie Pageant‘s iconic leopard.
Leibovitz designed the official poster for the 2024 Locarno Movie Pageant, which Locarno unveiled on Tuesday. The poster reveals the feline mascot in opposition to the Alpine backdrop of the Lago Maggiore, a picture meant to evoke the distinction inherent within the pristine setting for Europe’s most avant-garde A-list pageant. “Just like the Locarno Movie Pageant, the leopard is fascinating, an out-of-place icon in an evocative setting,” goes the pageant blurb.
“Annie has produced an iconic picture attribute of her idiosyncratic language,” stated Locarno pageant pesident Maja Hoffmann, noting the picture of the leopard, with its “distinctive magnificence and fragility,” set in opposition to the Locarno mountains, “flip it right into a poignant image of our occasions.”
Austrian filmmaker Jessica Hausner will function jury president for the 77th Locarno Movie Pageant, which runs from August 7-17, 2024. The Piano and The Energy of the Canine director Jane Campion will likely be honored with this 12 months’s Pardo d’Onore Manor Award for lifetime achievement.
