The Black Pacific, that includes Pennywise frontman Jim Lindberg, have introduced their sophomore album and first LP in 14 years, HERE COMES OUR WAVE.
Forward of the September twentieth launch date — virtually a 14 years to-the-day since their debut dropped in 2010 — the band provided up the unique lead single and opening monitor “I Assume I’m Paranoid” (not a canopy of the Rubbish music by the identical title).
The monitor channels “post-9/11 anxieties and modern-day fears,” in response to the press launch, and falls proper in Lindberg’s melodic-punk wheelhouse. Given the sonic similarities, that is basically an extension of Lindberg’s work in Pennywise — and contemplating that band hasn’t launched an album since 2018, a boon for devoted followers of the skate-punk act.
“I’ve had this music for some time now,” remarked Lindberg in a press launch, “and it was about all of the mindless violence, terrorism, authorities conspiracies, and divisiveness that make you wish to transfer to a desert island someplace, however now I’ve up to date it to incorporate hate teams, militias and world pandemics, so it’s principally only a panic assault with distorted guitars at 120 Beats Per Minute.”
All of the songs on HERE COMES OUR WAVE, just like the debut from The Black Pacific, have been written and carried out by Lindberg alongside his longtime buddy and recording accomplice, drummer Alan Vega. As Lindberg defined, the music was culled from a stockpile of demos he had recorded through the years, together with songs that didn’t match inside the context of Pennywise.
“I’ve been writing songs for Pennywise and numerous initiatives for a few years, and I’ve amassed a catalog of a whole lot of demos, actually packing containers of cassette tapes from the previous few a long time,” Lindberg stated. “Among the songs weren’t proper for Pennywise, and I labored on them with Alan from The Black Pacific so it simply made sense to place out beneath that title.”
He continued: “I believe the knee jerk response might be to say all of it seems like Pennywise, however I wrote the music and lyrics for greater than half of each Pennywise album we made collectively after Jason [Thirsk] our bass participant handed away, so I believe it’s extra correct to say that Pennywise seems like me, not the opposite approach round! After I choose up an electrical guitar that is the music that comes out of me, no matter what title it comes out beneath.”
